I'm skipping ahead and posting again today because I want to share with you what I think is the
GREATEST art project ever. WOW, that is a big, bold statement isn't it??? Well, you be the judge!
Our letter last week was "M" so this just seemed perfect. We are reaching for the moon and the stars. YES, with the exception of cutting out the moon and the children's bodies), these were all done completely by the students themselves! I saw a similar art project on a children's museum website last year. I'm sorry that I don't have the original art piece (it was done by an adult artist) but if you do, please let me know and I will give them credit.

This project was really very simple but the children were all so proud of themselves. I loved watching each child finish their art and look at it. They were so happy. I hope you will try something like this with your class and if you do, please send me a picture, I would love to see it!

ReplyDeleteThe photo was really fun! We put a piece of tape high up on the wall and ask the children to try and reach it. It took several attempts for some of the children but it was well worth it. I just had them printed at our local Walgreens (little plug there for them since they are so nice) and I cut them out. I hope that helps and thanks for writing!!

The "sky" part of the picture is just a mixture of blue, teal, purple and white paint. The children squirt on the paint then mix it with their paint brush. BUT, now that your mention fingerpainting . . . . hmmmm . . . .

Hi Heidi! The moon was made by letting the children paint a piece of paper with some gold shimmer paint and the stars were just little punches. I cut out the moon but the children punched their own stars.

ReplyDeleteThank you for writing Amelie! I am so sorry that I do not know about preschools or even about the school systems in Chicago. In my opinion, one of the most important things in a preschool is "happiness". Go to "check out" the schools during class time. No one should mind and if they do, find out why. Take your child with you and see how they react with the other children. We welcome visitors and prospective students in my class.

ReplyDeleteHi Ken! We used our large construction paper, which I think is 12 x 18. The pictures were standard 4 x 6 and I made sure to crop them so the child takes up the entire 6 inches. Thanks for writing!!!

ReplyDeleteI love it!! I received this beautiful art project from my daughter for Mother's Day several years ago... with a little note glued to it, "Maman, pour toi j'irais décrocher la lune!" which translates loosely to, "Mama, I would take the moon down for you".

ReplyDeleteI did it with my kindergarten kids dressed in their little “grad” cap and gown. We finger painted the background and I attached a copy of the Harriet Tubman quote along the right hand side:
